Congratulations to the February Public Service Performance Champion

Recently (15 March), Premier David Burt congratulated the recipient of the February 2024 Public Service Excellence Award, a Government Analyst from the Ministry of Health. Accepting the award on behalf of the recipient was the Director of Health David Kendall.

Bermuda Government analysts provide crucial support to Bermuda’s law enforcement agencies by analyzing exhibits to detect the presence of controlled substances and narcotics. These duties are high-risk, demanding, and incredibly sensitive, requiring complex and technical written reports.

This particular analyst was recognized for providing exceptional service at the Central Government Laboratory (CGL). The awardee is regarded as an invaluable team member with exceptional work ethic and skill.

In addition to managing the case load and exceeding turnaround times, this month’s awardee has dedicated their time to engaging with Police, Customs, Treatment Services and Corrections personnel regarding the dangers of fentanyl in the work environment, so that officers can protect themselves and properly manage risks. The analyst is also admired by colleagues for being a reliable team player with a calm and focused approach to work, even during stressful times, including long work hours, late nights, and weekends.

In congratulating the recipient, Premier Burt said, “This meticulous, exacting and dedicated public officer provides forensic drug chemistry and technical analysis to assist in crime detection. Not only have they demonstrated the ability to multi-task and work under pressure, but the recipient has demonstrated a sound knowledge of the forensics discipline carried out in the laboratory.  The commitment to service excellence is commendable.”

Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter said, “On behalf of the entire Public Service Executive, congratulations for the impressive mark you’ve made! Your work is valued and appreciated.”
