Community Thanks Dr. Weldon For Her Services on Official Last Day

This To mark her last official day as scientific advisor to the Government and head of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (MDL), colleagues and friends of Dr. Carika Weldon gathered at the lab in Warwick to thank her for all that she has done for them and for Bermuda as a whole.

“ Dr. Weldon was very nice and it was a pleasure to have her at the lab,” a young staff member said. “ She opened the lab, got us this new location and trained us all, so she was a great value to the lab.”
Geraldine Smith, one of the event’s organizers said that through her service, Dr. Weldon raised the bar for Bermudians and for young black women in particular.
“ I am sure that some of these lab workers are now inspired to go back to school, greater heights and to achieve much,” she said.

Also present at the ceremony was Dr. Weldon’s godmother Sharon Smith, who expressed her immense pride in what her goddaughter achieved, especially with the pressure that she was under at times.
“ I am glad that we could do this small thing to show that Bermudians do appreciate her and what she has done and I wish her the best of luck going forward,” she said. “ She has blessed us all with her knowledge and skills and it is truly all about her now.”

Lisa Douglas from Celeration Yard Carders, who also helped put the event together, called this event thanking Dr. Weldon “of national importance,” and, despite being quite a bit older than Dr. Weldon has found herself inspired by her and what she has done.

TNN and its staff would like to thank Dr. Weldon for all of her service and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
