Community Comes Together to Clean Up Problem Property in Sandys

Inspector Cerepha Bridgeman, Area Commander of the Western Division, recently hosted a series of community meetings across the western parishes. During the Sandys meeting, residents raised concerns about an abandoned property located at 40 Somerset Road.

The property had become severely overgrown and filled with garbage, making it a hotspot for antisocial behavior and a known location for hiding weapons and drugs.

In response, a major community cleanup took place this morning. More than 20 volunteers — including Members of Parliament, off-duty police officers, and community residents — came together to cut back the overgrowth and sort through piles of household items and debris. The collected waste will be removed and properly disposed of.

Special thanks go to Mr. Lionel Bartley and his dedicated work crew, who not only offered to transport the horticultural waste but also assisted in clearing the area.

This initiative was made possible through collaboration with Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) and the Waste Management Section of the Public Works Department.

Inspector Bridgeman expressed her appreciation for the community effort, stating, “I was truly pleased with the turnout. I want to thank everyone who gave their time to help clean up this area of major concern. Your commitment shows the strength of our community when we work together.”
