Bermuda HealthCare Services first Docs for Dinner in 2024 saw Bermuda Hospitals Board CEO & President Scott Pearman atone for the role the Bermuda Hospitals Board played in discriminatory actions taken against some of the island‘s top doctors, including labour advocate Dr. Barbara Ball.
The newly installed CEO then walked the in–person audience of 40 attendees through the 2021-2022 strategic plan framework currently in progress.
Speaking at Docs for Dinner on March 14, Mr. Pearman‘s topic was Building Bridges, Transforming Healthcare. The speech was live streamed on TNN’s Bermuda News As It Happens Facebook page.

During the speech, Mr. Pearman told attendees that introducing the hospitalist program in 2008 resulted in disruptions, which displacedprimary care physicians as the most responsible physician for in-patient care. He explained that although the change in the program reduced the length of stay, the disruption in relations with primary care physicians confused the patients. He added the program was a failure in execution.
BHCS Chairman Dr. Ewart Brown states: “Scott Pearman has the distinction of being the first non-physician speaker at this event. Docs for Dinner is the ideal gathering to discuss the way forward as the BHB works to improve its lines of communication with local physicians. This will be key as the island moves towards improving the healthcare system that ensures everyone has access to affordablemedical care.“ Dr. Brown added: “We thank Mr. Pearman for speaking directly to the doctors in attendance and working toward closing the gap between primary care doctors and the hospital.“
