CariGenetics Launches Paid Summer Laboratory Internship

CariGenetics is proud to introduce a new 10-week paid laboratory summer internship, sponsored by Roche Bermuda, aimed at individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related science field.

During its inception in 2022, CariGenetics, using the Roche Science Lab at Bermuda College, significantly enhanced testing capacity, strengthened data security, and created new employment opportunities in genomic research on the island. Now with their newly renovated

state-of-the-art laboratory at Bermuda College, CariGenetics is looking to develop local talent

in the field of genetics.

Through this collaboration, a budding Bermudian scientist will support cutting-edge research at CariGenetics’ facilities, building upon the success of their successfully completed breast and prostate cancer studies in Bermuda.

This new internship, which carries the potential to convert into a full-time Laboratory Technician position upon successful completion, is designed to provide graduates with hands-on exposure to essential laboratory functions, including study design, extracting DNA, genetic sequencing, interpreting data, and supporting cutting-edge scientific innovations.

Dr. Carika Weldon, Founder and CEO of CariGenetics, shared her excitement for the new partnership:

“This collaboration with Roche Bermuda is a significant step forward in strengthening Bermuda’s scientific workforce. By creating meaningful career pathways for experienced professionals, we are ensuring that our local talent can thrive in cutting-edge fields like genetics and precision medicine. I am grateful to Roche for their support in helping us build a future where Bermudians lead in scientific innovation and research.”

Ms. LaRondie Harrell, President of Roche Bermuda, commented:

“This partnership with CariGenetics exemplifies Roche Bermuda’s dedication to advancing science that matters — not just locally, but globally. By supporting emerging talent in the field of genomics, we are investing in discoveries that can influence the future of precision medicine worldwide. Bermuda has a unique role to play in global health innovation. Through initiativeslike this internship, we’re helping to ensure that our local scientists are part of that international conversation.
