BVI Premier Arrested and Detained in Florida on Drug Charges

John Rankin, CMG, former Governor of Bermuda and current Governor of the British Virgin Islands, provided a written update to the citizens of the overseas territory yesterday, informing
them that Premier Andrew Fahie had been arrested and detained in Miami, Florida, charged with conspiracy to import a controlled drug and with money laundering.

As the investigation is still very active, Governor Rankin can not comment on it any further at this time; however, he confirmed that his arrest was a US operation led by the DEA and not
linked or related to the Commission of Inquiry report.

As of yesterday, Deputy Premier the Honorable Natalio Wheatley became Acting Premier of the Territory and will remain Acting Premier until further notice.
