Business group distances itself from convicted sex offender

• Following public reporting of the case, a business co-owned by Bennett—Game On Sports Bar—released a statement on social media Instagram page addressing the situation and distancing itself from him.

“Many of you have seen recent news reports that Brian Bennett was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for viewing illegal images of child pornography,” the statement began. “As co-owner of Game On Sports Bar and Grill, we were shocked by this revelation. We do not condone his actions and we have fully cut any and all ties with Mr. Bennett. He is no longer involved with our businesses in any way.”

The business clarified that the criminal investigation concerned events that occurred long before their establishment. Game On Sports Bar opened in 2024, years after the offenses took place.

“To clarify, the investigation that led to his conviction related to events from before Game On Sports Bar even existed,” the statement continued. “Many rumors claiming that the kids’ area at Game On was involved are completely false. We had no knowledge of these allegations until they became public this past week.”

The owners emphasized that Game On was created to be a family-friendly environment and that they remain committed to community values.

“We support many families and stand firmly against this type of criminal behavior. We hope you will continue to support us during this difficult time. Bermuda Strong, Game On.”

The public would remember that a Devonshire man was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to accessing child pornography, a ruling handed down two weeks ago in Hamilton Magistrates’ Court.

Brian Bennett, 53, pleaded guilty to accessing two categories of illegal child sexual abuse material. The offenses were committed between December 2017 and March 2018. Prosecutors elected not to proceed with an additional allegation that he viewed a third category of child pornography.

During sentencing, Magistrate Cassidy imposed a two-year prison term, ordering that half of the sentence be suspended for one year. Upon Bennett’s release, he will be required to serve one year of probation. The court also ordered that Bennett will serve his prison term and, once released, he will be officially added to the child pornography offenders registry.
