The Department of Public Transportation is advising commuters that there will be service delays this week and no public bus service tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 April from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Last week, the Department responded to questions regarding cancellations and delays. The issues stemmed from resource shortages, including a backlog in the shipment of tires for the diesel fleet. The bus maintenance challenges have resulted in fewer buses in service and increasing cancellations. The new tires will be delivered this week.
The purpose of tomorrow’s meeting with Bus Operations staff at the BIU headquarters will is to discuss ways to reduce cancellations and boost the service levels. Therefore, there will be no service tomorrow between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.
In addition, the Department is preparing the electric buses for service and providing training for bus operators and maintenance staff. To date, 90% of bus operators have passed certification and are qualified to drive. The maintenance training is considerably more detailed and management and staff are committed to education and continuous development.
On Wednesday 13 April, the Minister of Transport, the Hon. Lawrence Scott, JP, MP will hold a press conference. Immediately following, the media will be invited to ride on one of the electric buses.
The Department is working to improve overall services and apologizes for the temporary interruption of service tomorrow. Cancellations will continue to be posted at gov.bm/bus or 292- 3851.
