Addiction breaking the stigma as Recovery month begins

September marks Recovery Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of addiction and the recovery process.

TNN is pleased to host a series of discussions led by Mickey Parfitt-Smith, who is at the forefront of this important initiative. Our aim is to help remove the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery, fostering a more supportive and informed community.

TNN’s Trevor Lindsay spoke with Mrs. Parfitt-Smith to learn more about her plans and the impact she hopes to make. Here’s what she had to say.

Throughout September, I am organizing a series of public roundtable discussions, broadcast live on TNN Facebook Live every Monday at 1 p.m., except for the first week, which will be today Tuesday. Each week will feature different topics related to addiction recovery, including youth, equality, holistic wellness, and peer support services.

The panels will consist of diverse guest speakers, such as Leslie Grant, executive producer of Focus, representatives from MASK Bermuda, Child and Family Services, and the National Drug Commission. The goal of these discussions is to provide valuable, life-saving information, educate the public, and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery in Bermuda. Miki Crawford-Smith aims to foster greater understanding and support for individuals and families affected by addiction through these conversations.
