Board members appointed for embattled Bermuda Tourism Authority

The makeup of the new Board of the Bermuda Tourism Authority has been unveiled via a notice published in the official gazette. The following Board is appointed with effect from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025 under the applicable Legislation unless otherwise indicated.

The new appointments being former

BERMUDA TOURISM AUTHORITY BOARD

Bermuda Tourism Authority Act 2013

Mr. Wayne Caines – Chair

Mr. Joseph Best – Deputy Chair

Mr. Dennie O’Connor

Mr. William Griffith

Ms. Jennifer Phillips

Mr. Ronald Simmons

Mr. Kim Swan

Ms. Shiona Turini

Mr. Griffiths and Mr. O’Connor are the two new comers to the Board.

You may recall Mr. Griffiths is a former Director of the then Bermuda Department of Tourism. He was also the CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing. He currently operates WCG Consultancy.

Mr. O’Connor is a well known Restauranteur and operates the Whitehorse restaurant and pub as well as the Tobacco Bay beach resort and the Snorkel Park Beach Resort.

The new appointments comes as the Bermuda Tourism Authority is undergoing a so called culture review following a slew of resignations from the organisation in the last two years.

It was just last week that TNN broke the story on two more resignations. A report in the local daily today confirming that one of  those was Hazel Clark the authority’s director of global business development and partnerships.

To date, TNN has not heard back from Wayne Caines who remains Chairman of the BTA Board about the apparent ongoing upheaval at the BTA, which has been describes as a toxic working environment.
