In light of the sharp increase of Coronavirus hospitalizations and deaths recently, the executive board of the Bermuda Industrial Union issued a letter on Friday to all members, strongly encouraging them to get vaccinated against the virus if they have not already done so.
“ We are asking [members] to please speak with your family doctor about the vaccine and to please stop listening to the social media quacks,” the letter read. “ We need to keep each other safe by protecting not only our immediate family members, but also our other family in the workplace.”
The BIU’s executive board believes that, if unvaccinated members must get tested for the virus every day before work, then the same principles should apply for vaccinated members, as they can also pass the virus onto others.
“ We do not know if COVID will ever go away entirely, but we would rather not see any more of our members die or or suffer unnecessarily when science has proven that vaccination does work,” the letter continued.
“ We are asking that you really consider this request [to get vaccinated] and have the conversation with your doctor. Let’s help Bermuda get back to some form of normalcy.”
The letter ended by thanking all union members for their hard work and perseverance, especially during the past 20 months, and encouraging them to keep up the good work.
