BIU Chief Organizer Terminated from All Positions

Reports reaching TNN this morning suggesting Bermuda Industrial Union allegedly called the police, reportedly to physically remove Union Organizer George Scott from union headquarters.

According to reliable sources, it is believed the incident occurred moments before what would have been a weekly Executive Board Meeting this morning.

TNN’s Trevor Lindsay spoke with BIU Organizer Brother George Scott, who gave TNN a detailed interview about a dispute with the President of the Bermuda Industrial Union Chris Furbert.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday May 26, Chief Organizer of the Bermuda Industrial Union Brother George Scott was called into an office at the BIU and was given a letter which informed him that he had been terminated from all of his positions at the union.

“ The first paragraph of the letter reads ‘ I write this letter in response to the arbitration hearing held on October 13 and 14, 2020, between the BIU on behalf of a union member and the Bermuda Security Group,’” Brother George said.

He formally grieved the letter as of Monday, May 31 and is yet to hear anything from the union in response.

“ On Wednesday, I went to get a power cord in my office and discovered that the lock had been changed,” Brother George said. “ If they were going to change my lock, notify me and let me know how I could get into the building.”
“ In reading the arbitrated decision, it has been revealed that a union member has revealed several mistruths about [ Brother Chris Furbert] as the BIU’s general president,” the letter read.

“ As the Chief Union Organizer and an executive officer of the Union, it is [Brother George’s] obligation to abide by the union constitution and act in such a way that promotes the best interests of this organization and [Brother George has] failed to do so in this situation.”

Brother George wants to make it clear that during the dates in question, what the union member be said was nothing but the truth.
“ In September of this year, anyone who wants to run for a union office has to sign a book, which is why I believe I was terminated,”

Brother George said. “ Brother Chris said that he was finishing at the end of this term, but I believe that he will run again and claim a seat as the BIU President and people should be tired of his nonsense.”

Brother George would like to remind Brother Chris that he cannot fire or terminate him, because Brother Chris did not hire him as the Chief Union Organizer; Brother George was voted into that position by the delegates’ conference and has been in it for 18 years now.

“Brother Chris will have to provide data to support what he is saying that I did nor did not do,” Brother George said. “ If he does not do this, he would be maligning my character, which will also be dealt with soon.”

No official word yet from the BIU or the Bermuda Police Service.
