Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda presents its fifth “How much would you pay to see me…?” fundraiser.
Local celebrities and community members have volunteered to raise funds for the charity by doing outrageous ‘dares’ live on stage at the final Harbour Night on Wednesday, August 31st. Each participant has accepted hilarious, stomach-churning, or bizarre dares with the aim of raising between $1,000 – $1.500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda. The participants will encourage members of the community to make pledges to see them do their dares and generate funding for the charitable organisation.
In previous years we witnessed: A Member of Parliament kissing a pig from Wadson’s Farm! A school Principal getting into a boxing match with the BELCO Bird; A Star runner eating a live “organic” cockroach; A Church Bishop dancing the Whip & Nae Nae while being baptized with water balloons; and the Presidents of Somerset and St. Georges Cricket Clubs swapping team colours! This year the sky is the limit!
The 12 contestants and dares are:
Media Maya – will sing while jumping on one leg and getting chocolate syrup and other messy stuff poured over her head by children in the audience.
Mr. Fotogenik – will get a pie in the face from people he has posted on his Instagram page.
Dr. Carika Weldon – will sing Whitney Houston’s song “I will always love you”.
Akil Darrell – will have his leg waxed by a representative from Three Graces Day Spa
DJ Fury – will bob for a prize in something nasty (it might be fish guts or bait!)
Olivia Hamilton – will become a Gombey.
Trevor Lindsay – will become a worship leader and lead us in worship.
Brixx the Artist – will come to Harbour Nights looking a hot mess for the night!
Judy Gonsalves of Chubb – will get in an ice bath and see how long she can stay in there. Can she last a minute or more!?
Vernal Caines of Chubb – will get in an ice bath and try to see how long he can stay in there. Can he last a minute or more!?
Ed Christopher – will get hypnotized by Mr. Magic!
Mia Chambray – will get an “organic” facial from her husband and son!
Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Managing Director of BBBS says, “We had planned to do this fundraiser in 2020 but then we were faced with the pandemic. Then in 2021 we were faced with the same dilemma. This fundraiser promises to be a fun event for families while also helping us to continue servicing the youth of Bermuda. We encourage everyone to log on to bdatix.bm and make a donation towards a dare. Our contestants are amazing, and we are looking forward to a great show. We would like to thank the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce for their support of this event.”
People interested in making a donation towards one of the contestants can visit the donations section of bdatix.bm and click on the “How Much Would You Pay To See Me…?” logo or by going to: https://crm.bdatix.bm//civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=34 for the direct link.
