BREAKING NEWS: We’re coming to you with breaking news out of Durham, North Carolina, where tragedy has struck.
TNN understands that a young Bermudian woman has lost her life in a fatal car accident, while her sister — who was also in the vehicle — sustained a broken foot. The heartbreaking incident was first reported by ABC 11 News in North Carolina.
DURHAM N.C. A tragic accident on I-40 westbound Sunday morning claimed the life of a woman and left her sister injured in Durham County.
Around 4:45 a.m., Brijette Basden, 24, of Kernersville pulled over on the left side of the interstate near Page Road to switch driving duties with her sister, Asrael Basden.
While both sisters were standing outside the Ford Fusion, which was partially in the roadway, Durham police said they were hit by a 2003 Toyota Camry.
The Camry, traveling in the far-left lane, also collided with the Ford. It then veered to the right and was struck by a 2021 Toyota Camry traveling in the second lane from the left.
Brijette was killed in the crash, authorities confirmed. Asrael was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was reported injured.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
All westbound lanes were closed for several hours as authorities completed the on-scene investigation.
