Bermudian Racer Hopes to Get Into the Big Leagues One Day.

Five years ago, 15-year-old Donovan Dyer left Bermuda to focus on his passion of racing cars. The cars that he currently races can go up to 120 miles per hour. Since he can remember, he has been obsessed with anything and everything on wheels and knew that he wanted to be involved in some capacity in motorsports.

“ Young people [who may wish to do what I do] require a lot of dedication and commitment, a lot of health training and some sort of financial backing to start off. If they are in love with the sport, people can definitely do it, but they must dedicate their whole lives to it” Mr. Dyer said. “ I’m Dyslexic, so racing is a way to express myself without using words or writing.”

In order to progress in his racing, Mr. Dyer needs to raise $150,000 a year. Because of this, he is currently looking for sponsors.
“ I think that within the next five years, I will either be in or on my way towards the big leagues of racing, competing with the big names in the sport,” he said.

Some of the physical training involved in being a great racer includes a lot of core workouts and a lot of stamina.

Since he started watching Formula 1 racing, British Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton has been Mr. Dyer’s idol and he hopes to be as decorated as Mr. Hamilton one day.

Anyone who is interested in sponsoring Mr. Donava in his racing endeavors can reach out to them through Facebook or Instagram. @Donavan.dyer on Instagram and Dyer Racing Team on Facebook.

“ This has been my son’s passion since he was three years old on a homebuilt go-kart,” Mr. Dyer’s mother said. “ All you can do is support and hope for the best for your children and say a prayer every time he gets behind a steering wheel.”

“ Even though we’re looking to raise a substantial amount of money, because it’s such an important event that Donavan is going to be racing, sponsorship for him can start from as little as $150,” she continued.
Mr. Dyer will compete in his first big race on March 26 and 27.
