As the island celebrated the dawn of a new year, Bermuda also welcomed its first baby of 2025. At just after 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day, Danielle Joell gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Aaryonn Xavier Smith, weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces.
Danielle shared her remarkable journey with us, describing the labor process as both challenging and emotional. Her contractions began two days prior but were manageable at first. “I told myself I wouldn’t go to the hospital until something really changed—until I heard something pop or the pain became unbearable,” she recounted.
On New Year’s morning, Danielle woke up at 7 a.m. to increasingly painful contractions that were five minutes apart. She monitored her progress carefully before heading to the hospital, determined not to face another false alarm. By 9 a.m., she was in the labor ward, strapped to monitors as the contractions intensified.
Despite an early examination showing her cervix was still closed, Danielle’s condition quickly progressed. Within hours, she was fully dilated, and the medical team prepared her for delivery. However, complications arose when her doctor discovered the baby was not in the correct position, prompting an emergency C-section.
“I was emotional and scared, but the team was incredible,” Danielle said. “Everything happened so fast, but they made sure my baby and I were safe.”
At 1:03 p.m., Aaryonn Xavier Smith made his grand entrance into the world, becoming Danielle’s fourth child and her third son. The proud mother, who also has one daughter, expressed her joy and relief at Orion’s safe arrival.
“I was secretly hoping he’d arrive on New Year’s Eve,” she admitted with a laugh. “But having him as Bermuda’s first baby of the year is a blessing I’ll never forget.”
Danielle’s original due date was January 17th,2025 making Aaryonn’s early arrival even more special. Reflecting on the experience, she thanked her family, particularly her mother, who supported her throughout the intense labor, and the hospital staff for their swift and expert care.
As Danielle recovers and bonds with her new son, she looks forward to the year ahead with her expanded family. “Aaryonn’s name means ‘light,’ and I feel like he’s brought so much light and hope into our lives,” she said.
