Bermuda Select XI 87/8 Bermuda 92/1
Bermuda defeated Bermuda Select XI by nine wickets at White Hill Field, as the pair clashed on day two of the Bermuda Premier League [BPL].
Bermuda Select XI batted first and were in early trouble at four for one, as Alex Dore was dismissed for one.
What followed was a regular procession to and from the players’ tent as wickets fell regularly due to an early order collapse by the Bermuda’s Select XI.
The slide was halted by a 40-run seventh wicket partnership between Jarryd Richardson (33 not out) and Treadwell Gibbons (18), who took the score from 25 for six to 65 for seven.
The Select were eventually all out for 87, with CeJay Outerbridge emerging a the top wicket-taker for Bermuda, with four for ten.
Batting second Bermuda made short, easy work of the below par total, as Tre Manders anchored the innings with a well played 48 not out.
He was ably assisted by captain Delray Rawlins (33 not out) as the pair engaged in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 78 runs.
Shakai Darrell took the only wicket to fall for Bermuda from his right-arm off-spin.
“Today was nice,” said Manders after being named Man-of-the-Match. “Right from the start we got early wickets. .
“We were a little slow at the beginning, but then we kicked in and knocked them down for 80, so you can’t get much better than that.
“Batting I felt good. We were unlucky to lose Kamau early, but I managed to stick around, with the thought being that if one of us batted through we would win the game.”
Bermuda’s captain Delray Rawlins echoed Manders’ comments, well aware that victory was always critical for the team being able to remain in position to qualify for Sunday’s final match, presumably against Babados, which has appeared the pick of the four-member competition.
“That’s what we set out to do, win the game,” said Bermuda’s captain Delray Rawlins. “We won the toss and chose to bowl on a wicket that we thought would be difficult and that proved to be the case.
“They lost six quick wickets, but had a good partnership that brought them back into the game a little bit and didn’t finish how they wanted to. “It was a score that on a wicket like that could have been tough, but we played positive and it came off.”
