Bermuda storm to North American Cup title

Bermuda gained sweet revenge over the Cayman Islands, defeating the host country by 42 runs in the final of the North American Cup at Ricky Powell Oval in Bridge Town.

The victory largely came down to the batting of 18-year-old Isaiah O’Brien, who stood tall at the crease while his senior mates crumbled against a penetrative Cayman bowling attack.

O’Brien hit five sixes and two fours while scoring 43 of Bermuda’s 101 runs in a match reduced to 15 overs per team due to rain.

Of the other batters, only Kamau Leverock (18) and Delray Rawlins (ten) reached double figures. Meanwhile, Cayman’s Romario just missed recording the tournament’s first hat-trick, taking three wickets in four balls at one stage.

Turning to the bowling, Bermuda made Cayman look like schoolboys, with only two batters reaching double figures and a high score of just 14.

Kwasi James, as he had the day before when Bermuda beat Bahamas, starred with the ball. James, the fifth bowler used, cleaned up the tail end of the batting order, claiming three wickets for 17 runs.

Derrick Brangman was next best, taking two for 10, while three others Rawlins, Leverock and Kevon Fubler took one wicket each.
