Bermuda Prepares to Bid Farewell to Sir John Swan with Funeral Next Week

Bermuda will come together next week to honor the life and legacy of one of its most influential leaders as a funeral is held for former Premier and National Hero Sir John William David Swan.

Sir John, who passed away just under a week ago, leaves behind a remarkable legacy of public service, leadership, and national development. As the island continues to reflect on the loss of an elder statesman, family, friends, government officials, and members of the public will gather to pay their final respects.

The funeral service for Sir John William David Swan, KBE, JP, beloved husband of the late Jacqueline A.D. Swan of Paget Parish, will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Church Street in Hamilton.

Following the service, a private interment will be held.

Sir John is lovingly remembered by his companion, Susie; his children, Alison, Amanda, Paul, and Nicholas; his cherished grandchildren; his sister, Sylvia; his nephew; extended family members; and a wide circle of dear friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

The cathedral doors will open for public seating at 1:15 p.m. However, due to limited seating capacity, members of the public are respectfully encouraged to participate in the celebration of Sir John’s life through live-streamed broadcasts at several designated locations, including Pier 6, Cathedral Hall, the Earl Cameron Theatre, and the Conference Hall. The service will also be carried live on CITV and TNN’s Facebook Page.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Sir John’s memory be made to the The Salvation Army Bermuda.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pearman Funeral Home.

As Bermuda prepares to lay Sir John Swan to rest, the funeral will serve as a fitting tribute to a leader whose contributions helped shape the modern Bermuda and whose impact will be remembered for generations to come.
