Bermuda Police Sergeants Complete Advanced FBI Training

The U.S. Consulate General commended Bermuda Police Sergeants Terry Thomas and Michael Trott for completing advanced armed policing training provided by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and hosted by the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force (RTCPF).

The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) prepares officers to respond to an active shooter situation. The FBI taught the course to officers from four British Overseas Territories: Bermuda, Anguilla, Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos.

The FBI training, described as “demanding, vigorous and intensive” took place April 10 through April 14 in Turks and Caicos. It was designed to prepare first responders to isolate, distract, and neutralize persons seeking to cause harm to communities.

“Congratulations to Sergeant Trott and Sergeant Thomas on their success during this intensive training provided by the United States through the FBI. I am proud to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation between the United States and Bermuda, and the Bermuda Police Service’s engagement in several law enforcement trainings provided by the United States over the past several months is a testament to that close partnership.” said U.S. Consul General Karen Grissette.

Bermuda Police Service Assistant Commissioner Martin Weekes said “the BPS would like to thank Commissioner Botting and the FBI for hosting and providing this up-to-date training for our officers. We are very proud of the achievements of Sergeants Trott and Thomas and for completing this intensive course and representing Bermuda.”

Turks and Caicos Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting remarked, “We value our relationship and partnership with U.S. Law Enforcement Agencies, and I thank the training team for the delivery of an outstanding training event; training which has equipped officers to respond to any high threat to our communities and ensure they are kept safe.

“I was pleased to host colleagues from other British Overseas Territories, which has enhanced our ability to support each other for training and operations. All of the officers performed to a high level and were successful through a highly demanding course, I congratulate them on their success.”
