Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme Encourages Additional Feedback in Extended Consultation Period

There is still time to provide feedback on the Draft Blue Prosperity Plan! The consultation period for the Draft Plan ends on 31 December, so make sure to make your voice heard and contribute to the future of Bermuda’s Ocean.

The Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme (BOPP) continues offering many ways for everyone in Bermuda to provide feedback on how to best manage, protect, and sustainably develop Bermuda’s ocean spaces during the extended consultation period for the Draft Blue Prosperity Plan. Targeted stakeholder outreach to specific groups of ocean users through the BOPP Ocean Village is ongoing, along with the addition of one-on-one consultations with members of the commercial fishing community.

Multiple opportunities to speak and provide feedback to the BOPP team are being created and continued across the island. BOPP team members recently hosted two pop-up events at the Bermuda National Library and in front of City Hall to talk with interested individuals and gather input on their priorities for Bermuda’s ocean. More community-centred pop-up events are planned this month.

In addition to the pop-ups, BOPP presented the Draft Blue Prosperity Plan to several targeted stakeholder groups, each with unique and vested interests in the future of Bermuda’s waters. During the consultation, the BOPP team engaged with the Rotary Club, Nautilus, and the Bermuda Hotel Association. To engage with young ocean stewards and collect feedback, the BOPP participated in the Youth Climate Summit held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute from November 21st to 26th. Also, BOPP, in partnership with the Bermuda Zoological Society, held a Young Leaders Engagement Session at the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo.

BOPP’s Marine Spatial Planning Specialist, Sarah Brooks, commented: “We’ve been encouraged by our engagement with the community to date. We want to include the voices of every Bermuda resident and ocean stakeholder in this process to make sure the Blue Prosperity Plan is reflective of every person that depends on the ocean.”

BOPP will continue to  welcome feedback on the Draft Blue Prosperity Plan through the Bermuda Citizen’s Forum through 31 December 2022.
