BERMUDA COLLEGE NON-LAB COURSES MOVE TO REMOTE

Bermuda College has announced that as a result of a significant number of students who have been required to quarantine, or who have experienced delays in receiving their test results before coming to campus, all classes, except for experiential labs, will move to remote learning, effective Monday, September 13.

A College spokesperson said the decision had been made by the College’s Emergency Management Team, after assessing data from the first week of face-to-face instruction and the impact on teaching and learning. During this past week, many students advised that they were in quarantine and could not come to class. Other students were not able to get their test results in a timely manner to produce the negative test result required to attend class.

“The College campus remains open,” stressed the spokesperson, “and all labs and experiential classes will be held on campus as scheduled. This includes the nursing, art, culinary arts, science and technical education labs, as well as the PACE bartending, BOMI and Personal Fitness courses. These students will still need to observe the current protocols, and should book their Covid tests at the testing facility on campus, as soon as possible for next week’s classes if they have not already done so.

We should add that provisions will be made for those students who are in quarantine and who cannot attend lab or experiential classes; or for those who are not in quarantine, but whose environment at home may not be suited for optimal learning. For all other classes, instruction will be remote for the next couple of weeks, with a further assessment made and communicated to students by October 1.

Students are advised to monitor their emails and the College website regularly for updates.
We are committed to providing the on-campus experience which students have clearly indicated that they prefer, and which we support. We look forward to having all our students back on campus, soon.”
