Bermuda Chamber of Commerce to Host “Round 3: A Deep Dive into Housing in Bermuda”

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is inviting the public to attend a special Housing Solutions Forum on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Speciality Cinema & Grill, offering a clear and honest look at Bermuda’s complex housing crisis —and more importantly, opening the door to real solutions.

This is not just another conversation about the problem. This is where we work on the answers. Why is housing still such a problem — even as our population declines?

At this event, Chamber President Marico Thomas and the Chamber Economics Committee will share fresh data and surprising facts that cut through the headlines:

• Bermuda’s average household size has dropped from 3.4 to just 2.0 people — meaning we need more homes for fewer people.

• We are short an estimated 2,500 housing units today.

• New construction is averaging only 7 units per month — at this pace, it would take 30 years to catch up.

• Over 1,100 people are now facing some form of homelessness — far higher than many realise.

• Rising international business, costly construction, tight lending, and outdated regulations all add pressure.

• Healthcare is being affected — hospital beds are occupied by patients who simply have nowhere else to live.

“This isn’t just about housing — it’s about workforce, healthcare, cost of living, and our future as a community,” said Mr. Thomas. “We want the public to fully understand the scale of the issue — and to help us find real solutions.”

Data. Discussion. Direction.

At its core, this event is about presenting clear facts, engaging in open conversations, and helping Bermuda move toward a real, actionable direction on housing.

Two 90-minute sessions will be offered to accommodate anticipated demand and ensure broad participation:

• Morning Session: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

• Afternoon Session: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM

Each session will include an expert-led presentation followed by a focused Q&A designed to challenge assumptions, surface ideas, and encourage open, cross-sector dialogue.

Attendees are encouraged to come with open minds and bold ideas.
