BELCO President Wayne Caines Elected to CARILEC Board

Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (‘BELCO’ or the ‘Company’) today announced that BELCO President Wayne Caines was recently elected to the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) board of directors.

The new Board of Directors (BoD), was elected during CARILEC’s 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held virtually this year due to COVID restrictions. The BoD consists of newly elected, re-elected, and continuing members, representing various electric utilities and energy affiliated organisations, throughout the Caribbean and beyond.

CARILEC is an association of electric energy solutions providers and other stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean region, Central and South Americas and Globally. The CARILEC Secretariat endeavours to improve communication among its members, providing technical information, training, capacity building, conference, and other services. The Secretariat plays a leading role in electric utility advocacy, growth, and sustainability in the Region.

Newly elected Board Directors for the period 2021 to 2024 include Mr. Caines as well Mrs. Ruth Forbes, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FortisTCI Ltd. and Mrs. Solange Bertilia McKenzie, General Manager of Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC).

The CARILEC Secretariat said they are confident that through its experienced, knowledgeable, and results-driven Directors, CARILEC will continue to provide exceptional service to its members, as the region’s premiere energy solutions provider.

Mr. Caines said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been elected to the CARILEC Board to represent BELCO and Bermuda. BELCO has been a member of CARILEC for over 15 years and I look forward to continuing and building on this relationship as we, and many other utilities in the Caribbean region, push forward with the transition to renewable energy sources.”

In announcing the new Board, the CARILEC Secretariat said: “Each of these newly elected Directors will contribute tremendously towards the effective leadership of the Caribbean’s Association of Electric Energy Solution Providers, as they possess a wealth of experience and expertise in their respective core disciplines, including law, finance, and human resource management.”
