Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO) is committed to improving the community in which we operate.
The Company has a long history of charitable giving and volunteer service so our team was delighted to respond to a request from the Ministry of Public Works to support the Bermuda Housing Trust and Bermuda Police Service to improve the safety of the Dr. Cann Park Seniors Residence at Rockaway, Southampton by installing perimeter lighting around the property.
The Dr. Caan Park residence is home to 100 residents in four buildings and the lack of lighting led to concerns about safety. BELCO donated the materials and time to install lighting around the perimeter to improve the safety and security of the seniors who reside in the area.
BELCO President Wayne Caines said: “When we were approached about assisting with installing lighting at the Dr. Cann Seniors residence we were of course eager to help. The BELCO team was happy to be a part of this project and continue our proud history of giving back to the community.”
John Baritt, Chairman of the Bermuda Housing Trust, which oversees the Dr. Cann residences said: “On behalf of the Bermuda Housing Trust, I want to express our appreciation and thanks to BELCO for partnering with us and the Ministry of Public Works to enhance lighting and security at Dr. Cann Park in Southampton.
Dr. Cann Park is home to 100 seniors and, on their behalf as well, we are most grateful that BELCO responded to our need when asked. In fact, it is generous acts like this that help the Housing Trust meet its mission, which is to provide a community of homes for our seniors at the most affordable rates possible. Contributions from responsive corporate citizens like BELCO are most welcome and we thank you for lighting the way.”
