Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (‘BELCO’ or the ‘Company’) is now accepting applications for its 2025 scholarship program, offering over $100,000 in educational funding to Bermudian students pursuing careers in engineering, STEM, business, and sustainability. These scholarships represent BELCO’s continued commitment to developing local talent and building Bermuda’s sustainable energy future.
The scholarships will be awarded to prospective employees of the Company who will attend school with the potential of returning to work at BELCO. There are several scholarships and awards available.
• The Llewellyn Vorley Engineering Scholarship
This provides the recipient the opportunity to further their knowledge in engineering fields. The four-year scholarship award is $25,000 per annum.
• The BELCO STEM Education Awards
These Awards are open to students studying for an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering and math (“STEM”), the number of awards and value, between $2,500 and $20,000. These awards are for a first degree and are awarded for one academic year only.
• The A.T. Oughton Post Graduate Business and Finance Scholarship
This aims to increase the number of qualified Bermudians in the business or finance fields. The scholarship is valued up to $25,000 for one year and will be granted to a suitable candidate studying for a graduate degree in a business or finance discipline.
• The C. Eugene Cox Post Graduate Environmental Studies and Sustainability Scholarship
This scholarship is valued up to $25,000 for one year. The scholarship will be granted to a suitable candidate studying for a graduate degree in Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Studies or an Information Technology, related discipline.
