BELCO Announces Apprenticeship Programme Virtual Open House

Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (‘BELCO’ or the ‘Company’) today announced an Apprenticeship Programme Virtual Open House that will be held on Thursday, October 14th at 5.30 pm.

Hosted by Nadir Wade, Managing Director of Bulk Generation, the virtual open house will be an information sharing session where anyone interested in applying for the Programme can learn more about how to apply, the roles they can fill and ask any questions they may have. Also, in attendance will be Liberty’s HR Generalists, Shaun Roberts and Kalita Furbert, along with, former apprentice, Electrical Fitter, Transmission, Distribution and Retail (BELCO), George Fubler.

The BELCO Apprenticeship programme has been re-designed to give worthy applicants an opportunity and the best chance of success in securing a rewarding and challenging career at BELCO.

The four-year programme offers successful applicants the opportunity to earn while training towards a successful and rewarding career blending technical training and academic study. Work-based learning helps apprentices kick-start their careers in Bermuda’s evolving energy industry. The deadline for applications is October 18th.

Upon completion of the programme, successful candidates shall be assessed for progression to graded positions and placed in designated areas of the business for the foreseeable future. Apprentices fill various roles within the Company including Electrical Fitters, Mechanical Fitters, Line Workers and Electrical Jointers.

The programme has evolved over the last 30 years and many of the Company’s skilled workforce are past apprentices that graduated from the programme and are now employed full-time at the Company.

Mr. Wade said: “BELCO’s Apprenticeship Programme has been empowering young Bermudians with rewarding careers at our Company for decades. We strongly believe in investing in our future and providing hands-on training with apprentices earning while they learn. This virtual open house will be a great opportunity to learn more and ask questions. I encourage anyone looking for an engaging, challenging and exciting career to apply for the programme and join our team who are building a sustainable energy future for Bermuda.”
