BELCO Addresses Cable Fault and Power Outage

BELCO experienced a cable fault on its west end transmission network last night at approximately 10:40pm, resulting in a power outage affecting just under 5,400 customers across the island for approximately 35 minutes.

The faulted cable is over 70 years old and was already scheduled to be replaced as part of BELCO’s ongoing transmission upgrade project.

BELCO’s crews responded swiftly, isolating the faulted section of cable so that repairs can be made and the cable returned to service. Work is underway to complete the permanent repairs.

“We recognise the inconvenience this outage caused customers and appreciate their patience during this disruption,” said BELCO Managing Director of Transmission Distribution and Retail, Shelly Leman “The faulted cable is part of aging infrastructure that we are actively working to replace through our transmission upgrade project.”
