In a world where neurodivergence is often misunderstood, one young man is breaking barriers and proving that different abilities are just that—abilities. Amani Peets, a 22-year-old entrepreneur from Bermuda, recently celebrated six successful years of business, building an empire of baked goods that has reached 44 countries worldwide.
His father, Anthony Peets, proudly shared Amani’s journey, highlighting his perseverance, passion, and resilience. “Amani was nonverbal until the age of four. His first words weren’t ‘mom’ or ‘dad’—they were ‘socks on the feet.’ As he grew, we realized his developmental trajectory was different. But our motto has always been: ‘Find a way.’”
And find a way, they did. Amani now operates a thriving business, baking and shipping cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and cheesecakes, including vegan and gluten-free options. His products are available globally, and his cookies even fly on Bermuda Air, reaching eight destinations, with three more on the way. Despite the challenges that autism can present, Amani has never let it define or limit him.
“I am not disabled,” Amani states proudly. “I just have a different ability. That’s all I have.”
His father, a school therapist with nearly 40 years of experience, understands the importance of support and belief. “When Amani was diagnosed, we were told he might need assisted living. Today, he is completely independent, has his driver’s license, and is leading a successful business. The biggest determinant of a child’s success is the parent—what you’re willing to invest in them.”
As Amani marks this milestone, he is not only celebrating the past six years but also planning for the future. Recognizing the challenges that individuals on the spectrum face in employment, he envisions opening model cafés worldwide, providing opportunities for autistic individuals to work in an environment that embraces their strengths. “Nobody will work for me,” he says. “They will work with me. We’ll be a team.”
In honor of his anniversary, Amani gave back to the community with a special free cookie giveaway, a small token of appreciation for the support that has helped him grow. As he continues to expand his business, he remains an inspiration, proving that with the right mindset and support, there truly is no box—only endless possibilities.
His tagline says it all: “One bite, and you’re all right.”
