TNN is investigating an incident that occurred yesterday on the third floor of the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building, where a government Minister allegedly had to be subdued by police officers.
Sources indicate the altercation took place as the Minister was waiting for a person of interest related to a family court matter.
A reliable source within Progressive Labour Party (PLP) organization, has stated to TNN News this individual in question should not have been appointed to this position due to the sensitive nature of there involvement in this case.
It remains unclear whether the Premier was aware of this situation when appointing the Minister to such a high-level role.
As the investigation continues, TNN received a response from the Department of Justice and DCI. The statement posted below.
“Today a Government spokesperson noted the commentary circulating on social media regarding an alleged incident which occurred recently at one of Bermuda’s Courts.
The Government spokesperson notes the following statement which has been shared by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, the Hon. Kim Wilkerson, JP.
“I want to take a moment to address the situation that has circulated regarding my recent visit to Family Court. I was in Court as the legal Guardian of a child under a care order. My presence there was solely to ensure the welfare of this child, a responsibility I take very seriously. It has been falsely rumored that I used my position as the Attorney-General to undermine or usurp the authority of the Court. I want to assure you that this is not the case.
“As many people who attend Family Court know, delays can happen. Since the Family Court is a closed court, it is extremely troubling that misinformation could be spread from the Court in such a sensational manner, with details that are neither accurate nor relevant to the case at hand. I am committed to serving with integrity in my role as Attorney General. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify what transpired and to reaffirm my dedication to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.”
