Afterschool services withdrawn at Devonshire Preschool amid unpaid wages

Workers at the Devonshire Preschool aftercare program have withdrawn their services after reportedly going unpaid for more than six weeks.

According to parents, staff members say they have not received wages since September 16th. The government had allegedly reassured the workers that payment would be made by October 31st, but parents say that deadline came and went without any funds being issued.

TNN spoke with a parent who expressed concern and support for the affected workers:

“Last week, they were saying they were going to cut the afterschool program because they hadn’t been paid,” the parent explained. “Government came back and said they would be paid October 31st—right?—so nothing happened. They’re still not being paid.”

She continued, describing a lack of communication from officials:

“They said they’re not even getting any responses from government. Nothing. So I’m like, this is flipping crazy, right? They haven’t been paid since September 16th, and here we are in November.”

The immediate impact has fallen on families as well. With aftercare staffing removed, parents have been instructed to collect their children no later than 3:00 p.m. each day.

“Right now, there’s no government afterschool program,” the parent said. “Everybody has to be picked up by three o’clock as most of us finish work at 5pm.”

Parents are urging swift intervention to ensure staff are compensated and services restored, emphasizing that both children and workers are suffering as a result of the disruption.

Government officials have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the situation.

This is a developing story. More details to come as they become available.
