The 2021 Kata Karate Shoto Cup Classic was held today at Whitney Institute middle school. TNN’s Trevor Lindsay spoke with Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports the Honorable Dr. Ernest Peets, JP, MP, who officially opened the tournament.
“ Hats off to the organizers of this event, who are using all of the required COVID-19 protocols,” he said. “ I’m also really impressed to see that they are using technology, too.”
The tournament had pre-registration and antigen testing done online beforehand, so the only thing that attendees had to do once arriving at the event was scan their negative test result or Safekey.
“ I’ve spent a lot of [free] time on the sidelines watching and coaching football, but a lot of people do not realize that I started studying martial arts about 17 years ago,” Dr. Peets said. “ It is a really big part of who I am, so I am honored to have opened up this tournament.”
He would like to thank everyone who came out to either participate or show their support at today’s event.
