BFRS Investigating Suspicious Fire at the Pembroke Dump

At 11:29pm last night the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service ( BFRS ) received a 911 call reporting a fire near the junction of Dutton Avenue and Marsh Folly Road.

Fire located at Pembroke Dump 2 Fire appliances, 2 Aerial Ladder Vehicles, 1 High Volume Unit, 1 Fire Service Water Tender and 2 Command Cars responded with a total of 16 fire personnel.

Additional personnel were recalled to assist. First appliance arrived at 11:38pm and upon arrival Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel found an area in the middle of the marsh approximately 100 x 100 sqft. fully engolfed in flame.

Firefighters used the High Volume Unit, which carries over a mile of 6 inch hose, to pump water from Number 8 Dock on Front Street to the Pembroke Dump. This required traffic to be diverted. The aerial Ladder vehicles allowed firefighters to fight the blaze from above, however there was an area that could not be reached so the surrounding area was wet down to contain the fire and a Fire Watch set up to ensure no further spread.

There were no injuries. A fire investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the blaze.
