Premier David Burt presented Somerset Cricket Club (SCC) with a cheque for $50,000 as part of the Government’s annual commitment to assist the Cup Match host club with funds towards the preparations.
During the Premier’s remarks he addressed the recent violent activities that have occurred in our community.
The Premier said, “We must also acknowledge the challenges we face, particularly the recent increase in violence in our community. As we celebrate Cup Match, let us also pledge to work together to foster peace and unity. I call on every Bermudian to take an active role in creating a safer, more harmonious Bermuda. Whether it’s through community engagement, supporting local initiatives, or simply looking out for one another, each of us must do our part. Let us honor the legacy of our ancestors not just through celebration, but through our actions.
Let us be vigilant, supportive, and committed to breaking the cycle of violence. Together, we can build a future where every Bermudian feels safe and valued.”
