$500,000 Drug Haul: Smith’s Parish Man Pleads Guilty to Four Charges, Remanded for Sentencing

A 40-year-old Smith’s Parish man appeared in Supreme Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to four charges arising from a drug-related investigation involving cannabis and delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol.

Jay Woolridge appeared before Justice Alan Richards, where he admitted to four of 23 charges brought against him.

The court heard that on August 4, 2022, in Smith’s Parish, Woolridge was in possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge alleging that, between an unknown date and August 24, he conspired with others to import cannabis into Bermuda.

A third charge involved possession of cannabis at a residence with intent to supply, while the fourth charge concerned possession of delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol with intent to supply.

The remaining 19 charges were ordered to remain on the file.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court that the drugs involved had an estimated street value of approximately $500,000. Police also seized $10,000 in cash from Woolridge’s residence.

Following his guilty pleas, Woolridge was remanded into custody at the Westgate Correctional Facility.

He is scheduled to return to Supreme Court on September 29 at 12 noon, when he will be sentenced.

Woolridge was represented in court by attorney Sara-Ann Tucker.
