50 Days on Ajahni Lema-Bascome Still Missing

BPS UPDATE: The Bermuda Police Service wishes to inform the public that Ajahni Lema-Bascome has been located safe and well.

As the search continues for Ajahni Lema-Bascome, who was last seen on December 21st in the Spanish Point Area, TNN has learnt the young man may have chosen to remain on the run for fear of being sent overseas to a youth rehabilitation facility.

TNN understands he may also have outstanding warrants for his arrest. When contacted about that claim a police spokesperson told TNN,

“The Bermuda Police Service does not comment publicly on any matter involving a minor. However we appreciate your concern as well as that of the public who continue to report sightings of Mr. Lema-Bascome.

We again urge anyone who knows f his whereabouts to please call the main police number, 295-0011 or, the Department of Child and Family Services on, 296-7575.”

The public should be aware that harbouring a juvenile is an offence. A person guilty of this offence is subject to a maximum fine of $3,000 or six months imprisonment.

TNN has been advised the teenager walked out of a government care facility back in November. Whether the Department of Child and Family Services is assisting with efforts to locate him remains uncertain, despite him having been under their remit at the time he went AWOL.

Police you may remember have previously indicated while there have been numerous reported sightings of the young man, this information is not provided to them until well after he was seen.

Neighbours of one of his relatives have informed TNN that he regularly visits the person’s residence which has been attended by police in a number of occasions since he was first reported as missing.

Members of the community have argued on social media posts that he is not missing as he has repeatedly been seen in and around Pembroke Parish. They contend it appears he simply does not with to submit to the authorities and perhaps for the reasons stated above.

Others maintain he is actually in need of help which those responsible for his care have failed to provide.
