42-Year-Old Man Charged with Unlawful Killing of James Burgess

A 42-year-old man appeared in Magistrates’ Court today charged with unlawfully killing James Burgess on August 7, 2025.

John Paul Samuels was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offense, which stems from a believed altercation in the Front Street area on the date in question.

Samuels was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear on October 1 for the Supreme Court Monthly Arraignment Session.

Senior Magistrate Maxanne Anderson ruled that if Samuels were granted bail, there was a high likelihood he would fail to return to court.

Samuels was represented by court-appointed attorney Mr. Vaughan Caines’s, who argued that the case did not involve murder or gun violence and that his client should be granted bail. However, the Senior Magistrate denied the request and ordered that Samuels remain in custody until his next appearance.
