40 Year Old Man Arrested For Alleged Money Laundering

On Sunday 6th February, 2022, Police commenced “Operation Columba”, upon being alerted to the discovery of a large amount of unaccounted for United States currency at the LFW International Airport.

Following the seizure, the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit, led by Detective Sergeant Leanda Johnston, commenced investigations which led to a warrant being executed at an eastern parish residence, where another large sum of both US and Bermuda currency was discovered and seized.

A 40-year-old male employed at the Airport, was later arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Detective Chief Inspector, Sherwin Joseph, who is in charge of the Specialists Investigations Department stated, “This significant cash seizure was as a result of ongoing work with our partner agencies at LFW International Airport, to prevent cross border laundering of the proceeds of crime.”

It is anticipated there will be a court appearance in connection with this matter in due course.

The investigation remains ongoing and no further information will be provided at this time.
