The Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust is pleased to announce that the 34th annual AXA End-to-End event will take place on Saturday, October 23rd with starts in St. George’s, the Botanical Gardens and on Beacon Hill Road. The finish line will be at the Royal Naval Dockyard. All participants must register online in advance. Anne Mello, Chair of the Trust stated: ‘This year will see the AXA End-to-End Charitable Trust surpass $6 million in donations and support to Bermudian charities over the past 34 years. We know that this support is crucial to many organisations which are so important to us and to our community and we could not have done it without the incredible participants in the annual event.
‘We are extremely pleased to be able to announce that we are able to go ahead with this year’s event in a return to a more familiar format. We recognise that we have an enormous responsibility to adhere to Government precautions and ensure a successful and safe event and as such, this year’s event will be a SafeKey event.’
With the continued support of title sponsor, AXA XL, funds raised this year will be used to assist Age Concern in supporting seniors, and to assist the Ministry of Education in in securing Chromebooks for students of Bermuda’s public schools – joining the Hasso Plattner Foundation and other organizations in meeting this crucial necessity. In this endeavour, the Bermuda End-to-End is supported by Bowring Marsh.
Carol Parker Trott, Communications & Marketing Director at AXA XL in Bermuda, said: ‘As the proud Title Sponsor of the End-to-End for more than a decade, we look forward to this significant event, no matter the format. It allows us to demonstrate AXA’s purpose of “Acting for human progress by protecting what matters”. In this case, it’s about supporting students in our public school system and seniors in our community who have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.’
A Large Group Exemption was granted to the Trust, after careful collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture along with the Ministry of Health.
The Bermuda Government’s Minister for Youth, Sport and Culture, Dr Ernest Peets Jr JP, MP said: ’I am extremely pleased that the 2021 AXA End-to-End event can proceed, even if a little later than usual. Thanks to the organizers’ diligence and commitment to holding a COVID-safe event, we have been able to support this with a large group exemption. The Government recognizes the cultural importance of the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust to our community, as well as the significant funds the event raises to contribute directly to Bermuda charities. I very much look forward to a safe, physically-distanced SafeKey AXA End-to-End.”
Only registrants with a SafeKey will be issued an event number, which is needed in order to take part on event day. Numbers and registration bags can be collected from the Washington Mall office of the End to End from Tuesday the 19th and Friday, October 22nd, 9am until 5pm on verification of a SafeKey. If obtaining a SafeKey to participate, that registration must take place on Thursday or Friday, in order for it to cover the event on Saturday the 23rd.
The 2021 event sees a new format: e-sports! For those who are more comfortable supporting the event from home, there will be a virtual fundraiser with teams of 3 competing in an online Apex Legends Tournament. Top fundraisers will be rewarded every hour with prizes from Sargasso! Catch all the action on Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube (twitch.tv/bdaesports). Follow Bermuda eSports League on social media to stay updated.
The traditional start in St. George’s, in the town square, will feature staggered kick off times with walkers starting at 7am and cyclists at 9am. The Middle-to-End will start at 8:30am for walkers and 9:30am for cyclists from the Botanical Gardens. Only persons wearing an event number will be allowed into the Finish Line walkway in front of the Clocktower in Dockyard. Water stops along the way will be available for hydration, refreshments and entertainment, meeting all requirements for social distancing, hand sanitizing, and mask worn by volunteers and sponsors.
There will be a great MC welcome and music as participants make their way to the ferry and bus stops. There will be no vendors nor festivities at the finish line. Participants, displaying their event numbers, will be able to ride the ferry for free thanks to the support of the Ministry of Transportation. HITCH Bermuda will be an active sponsor of the Finish and participants are encouraged to sign up for the app and use it as an alternative way to get a ride.
Platinum sponsors, Deloitte and Butterfield Bank, provide funding to help make the event a success as well as award-winning water stops. Their contributions also go a long way toward the 2021 project commitments.
Michael Neff, Managing Director at Butterfield Bank said: ‘The Bermuda End-to-End is one of the island’s biggest community fundraising initiatives and has stood the test of time for more than three decades. It has a hugely positive impact and, as an inclusive event that welcomes everyone to participate, we are pleased to be able to support. This year, the funds will help Bermuda’s senior population in addition to our young people through the chosen charities and I know our employees are looking forward to getting involved and volunteering their time to contribute to its success.’
“We are pleased that the AXA End-to-End 2021 will be taking place this year, and to once again be one of its Platinum Sponsors,” said John Johnston, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Bermuda. “This sponsorship allows us to demonstrate our commitment to making a positive impact in the areas in which we live and work.
