20 Students receive BELCO 2024 Scholarship awards

Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (‘BELCO’ or the ‘Company’) today announced the recipients of the Company’s annual scholarship awards with a total of $180,000 awarded to 20 students. The scholarship and education awards recipients are as follows:   

Nicholas Massa is the recipient of the Llewellyn Vorley Engineering Scholarship, which is valued at $25,000 for four years. Nicholas will study for a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Automotive Engineering at Ontario Institute of Technology.

 

Jaire Lawrence-Salaam is the recipient of the Hon C. Eugene Cox PostGraduate Environmental Studies and Sustainability & Development Scholarship, which is valued at $25,000 for one year.Jaire is pursuing a Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Surrey University.

Kameron Young is the recipient of the A.T. Oughton PostGraduate Scholarship, which is valued at $25,000.00 for one year. Kameron will study for a Master of Science in AI & Machine Learning at the University of Birmingham Dubai.

Ywione Darrell is the recipient of the BELCO PostGraduate Education Special Award valued at $5,000 for one year. Ywione will pursue a Master of Science in Economics for Development at the University of Oxford.

The BELCO Educational Awards were established in the early 1980s for academic studies leading to the award of an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering, and math (“STEM”).  The purpose of these awards is to recognise the scholar’s desire to further their knowledge in the STEM fields and to provide an opportunity for their insight, knowledge and experience to be shared within the Company and in the wider community. The awards range in value between $5,000 and $10,000 for a first degree to an accredited educational institution. The recipients of the 2024 Educational Awards are as follows:

NERIAH BEAN – Bachelor of Science in Applied Math & Engineering, Oakwood University.
RACHAEL BETSCHART – Bachelor of Engineering, Exeter University.
AMY COLMET – Bachelor of Science in Biology, Dalhousie University.
AZARI EASTON – Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Dalhousie University.
BRAZIL FURBERT – Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Anglia Ruskin University.
ZA’NYAH KHAN – Bachelor of Science in Physics, University of Leicester.
THOMAS MARSHALL – Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Construction Engineering Management, Loughborough University.
SAKAI NEWMAN – Master of Computing (Hons) in Computer Science, Newcastle University.
ETHAN SOUSA – Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Cardiff University.
WILLIAM WELCH – Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, University of Waterloo.
JASMIN WILLIAMS – Bachelor of Science in Computing for Business Management, University of Sussex.

BELCO STEM EDUCATION AWARDS – $10,000.00

TEJAH BEAN – Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Science, University Academy 92.
SETH HARDTMAN – Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Morgan State University.
KEISHUN SWAN – Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, University of Portsmouth.
GABRIELLE TURCHIARO – Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering University of Ontario.
