19-Year-Old Remanded on Firearm Charges, Due in Supreme Court in October

A 19-year-old Sandy’s Parish man was remanded into custody yesterday after appearing in Magistrates’ Court on two indictable firearm-related charges.

Josef Ferreira appeared before the Worshipful Tyrone Chin but was not required to enter a plea to either charge.

The first allegation is that on May 24, 2026, in Bermuda, Ferreira discharged bullets from a firearm, contrary to Section 4 of the Firearms Act 1973.

The second charge alleges that, between a date unknown and June 3, 2026, Ferreira conspired with another person or persons, in Bermuda and elsewhere, to import a firearm into the island without holding a valid licence to do so. That charge is contrary to Section 3B of the Firearms Act 1973, read with Section 230 of the Criminal Code.

As the matters are indictable, the man was not require to enter a plea in Magistrates’ Court.

Ferreira was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear in the October Supreme Court monthly arraignment session on October 5.

The allegations against Ferreira have not been proven in court.
