Government today responded to a disturbing sight at the Marsh Folly Composting Facility—several dead dogs were found dumped openly at the site. At least ten pitbull bodies were seen exposed and unburied on Saturday, which understandably alarmed many.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Public Works and Environment acknowledged that this is a sensitive issue. However, they reassured that the disposal process in place is both safe and effective.
He explained, “Disposing of animal remains is a tough but necessary responsibility. We do our best to handle it with care and dignity.”
The spokesperson clarified that the animals were left in a designated part of the marsh, separate from any public or operational areas. This area is specifically reserved for disposing of carcasses received from veterinary clinics, farms, and animal control services.
He added, “When animals arrive at the site, they’re placed in a dedicated burial area and buried by the end of the day. This process is carried out under an environmental operating license issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.”
The ministry assured that all the animals found were properly buried within the same day, and any claims that they were left exposed are incorrect. They emphasized that no animal remains are ever included in the composting process at the facility.
This incident, they said, is consistent with the government’s long-standing disposal procedures, which have been in place for over 30 years.
The spokesperson stressed that this is a controlled, licensed method of disposal that poses no risk to public health.
